Mets Sign Francisco Lindor to 10 Year Extension

In the final hours before Francisco Lindor set his deadline to negotiate with the Mets, the two sides came to an agreement. Lindor signed a 10-year contract extension for $341 million dollars according to Tim Healey on Twitter.

It is a huge day for Mets fans and the dawn of the new era for the team. Steve Cohen has said he wants to win a World Series in the next three to five years, and he has the centerpiece.

Lindor is a two-time gold glove winner, former American League Rookie of the year is going to be in Flushing for close to a dozen years. Pete Alonso made it clear he wanted Lindor around and said the team should pay $400 million for him if that’s what it took.

Now Milo thinks he is overrated, but I wholeheartedly disagree. Having a shortstop with postseason experience is going to go along way for the development of guys like Alonso, Dom Smith, and Jeff McNeil.

Steve Cohen was crowdsourcing on Twitter asking what he should offer up for Lindor, but luckily it didn’t cost them $400 million Pete was offering. To me, this was a no-brainer, aside from the experience Lindor brings, this is a good sign for the future of the team. Upcoming free agents will see the Mets as legitimate contenders who will open up the checkbook.

Although it came down to the last second, Francisco Lindor and the Mets came to terms on a contract extension and I cannot wait to see him rocking the black jersey at Citi Field.
